Horatio introduces himself to the captain, who was a friend of Horatio's father

Later, once more at the table

Archie Kennedy poses picturesquely		as Horatio looks thoughtful, and all is peaceful until the arrival of

mean ol' Jack Simpson, who failed his lieutenancy exam again

which makes Archie very worried

They get more worried the next day when Jack can't do his computations but Horatio can

which Jack takes out on Horatio		until nice Clayton comes to the rescue

and makes bully Jack see the point, or at least the muzzle
